Vacation in the Black Forest

Relaxing, diverse, and beautiful – three adjectives that, in my opinion, perfectly describe the Northern Black Forest. As a 22-year-old student who had just finished her bachelor's thesis, I definitely deserved a bit of relaxation. I had rarely considered a vacation in Germany – but I hadn't reckoned with the pandemic…

So, on a whim, I decided on a holiday closer to home – in the Northern Black Forest. Planning and getting there were incredibly easy and completely straightforward. I traveled there in less than an hour and a half, comfortably and in an environmentally friendly way, by train. I can already say that it was a short trip that completely changed my perception of what a staycation is! But let's start from the beginning; here are a few great tips for a holiday in the Northern Black Forest.

One of my first trips was to the beautiful little town NagoldAfter a leisurely Shopping trip It took me straight to the Waldach river. How fitting that right next door... Café “INSEL” had opened its doors. Definitely recommended and the perfect place for a short break – pure holiday feeling. A stroll through the green oasis of Nagold, Kleb City ParkThat was a must afterwards. A tip from me – the café at Kleb has THE frozen yogurt ice cream par excellence, with amazing toppings and extras!

Feelings of happiness at the heights

My wanderlust brought me to the "happy community" SchömbergThe leisurely "Zollernblicktour Wanderglück" circular hike leads through the idyllic spa gardens to the Zollernblick viewpoint. I would have loved to stay there a little longer, but a highlight was still waiting for me. And I found it on the terrace of the Hotel Café Talblicks. In front of me stood by far the best and (also largest) piece. Black Forest cakeThe best thing I've ever eaten in my life – absolutely delicious!

Schweizerkopfhütte – a viewpoint worth every effort – or so I was told. So I planned my Tour of Dobel to Bad HerrenalbI packed my backpack and off I went! From Old Water Tower in Dobel You already get a first taste of the views the tour offers. After about 1 ½ hours, I arrived at the Schweizerkopfhütte. The unique View extending to the Rhine plain...and much further still, left me speechless and was by far THE moment of this tour. Passing the Hahnenfalzhütte and numerous cows deservedly enjoying the sunshine, we continued to... Bad HerrenalbOn my way home, I decided to make a detour to... Calw decided. In "Old Calw"er" You feel right at home – partly because the chef is a truly unique and authentic character. And then, when the huge and absolutely delicious portion of Käsespätzle (cheese spaetzle) appeared on the table in front of me… a dream for all the senses and just what a hungry hiker needed!
