The most famous cake in the Black Forest
Black Forest cherry cake is the culinary icon of the Black Forest. With its worldwide fame, it proudly graces the shelves of bakeries. It is the symbol of the Black Forest, and indeed, a global phenomenon. Its popularity rivals, or perhaps even surpasses, that of the traditional Bollenhut hat.
The origins aren't entirely clear. Some historians suspect a master confectioner named Hildenbrand from Tübingen as the inventor , dating back to around 1930. It's important to know that in earlier times, Tübingen belonged to the so-called "Black Forest District"—which today would be considered part of the Northern Black Forest. So we can confidently claim that the Black Forest cherry cake originated here in our region. Even if that's not entirely true, one thing we know for sure: we have the best of it right here.
With plenty of cream. And no less kirsch! And a decent-sized slice, as is customary around here. You can worry about your figure again tomorrow, or the day after.
